Obesity
Why is it that we can gain weight without necessarily consuming a lot of food?
The obvious reason for gaining weight is that we are eating more calories than we are burning. However weight gain can also be linked with many other things including food intolerances, blood sugar imbalance, hypothyroidism, anxiety, and other health conditions.
If you are trying to lose weight and you suffer from food intolerances, even a calorie controlled diet may not help shift those kilos. If you continue eating the food that is causing the inflammation in your body (and it could be a ‘healthy’ food like certain salad ingredients) you are just compounding the problems which could lead to chronic disease.
Many people diet by having meal replacements like protein shakes and wonder why they don’t lose weight. If you happen to have an intolerance to dairy (most protein shakes are milk-based), you will just bloat and retain fluid and even put on more kilos!
Food intolerances are not immediate reactions like allergies. Symptoms of food intolerance can occur hours or even days after eating the offending food. Much of the weight gained is fluid retention caused by inflammation and the release of certain hormones. The inflammation settles in different parts of the body, which means the symptoms vary from person to person. These can include bloating, constipation, flatulence and other gastro intestinal disorders, as well as headaches or skin conditions, etc.
If you are concerned about weight gain and your health professional has found no underlying organic cause, a food intolerance test may be the answer to solving the problem.
Take a Food Intolerance Test or Contact Us to discuss your testing options.
"I couldn't believe that I'm gluten intolerant. I've completely removed gluten from my diet (where possible) with excellent results in 3 days."
